[BITS] ISSUE 002 — Ribbons RND [Shot 04] [Houdini, Redshift]

The last shot from current Ribbons RND. In this one we setup chain simulation with multiple DOPs. First to setup the initial rest state of ribbons and pearls laying around the product, and pushing it to the second Vellum solver for animation and adding extra layer with petals. Simulation time is a bit longer than usual, so no alembics or C4D this time (cause of huge file size). You can do it on your own, if needed. All shading and rendering done within Houdini using Redshift.
Some SideFX Labs nodes used (Spiral and AutoUV), so this is needed to be installed to work out of the box. Or you can replace missing nodes with own curve and UV Project. Black variation was made in comp, just subtracted Refraction and GI AOV's.

Fun fact #1: Even this shot was made in H19, I was not aware of new Vellum Shape Match constraints. I spent some time trying to cheat with pearls, making them look rigid as much as possible with low substeps, so usual Cloth+Struts pairing was used. Turns out it is much easier now with Vellum Shape Match constraints node and solves even faster.

Fun fact #2: Only on render stage I actually noticed that in the end of the shot wind turbulence make "metal" pearls fly. That's because of high force turbulence and low mass on pearls constraints. But the result was so funny looking that I decided not to re-sim. Not a bug but a feature, you know.
